journey map
When I created this journey map in HON-200, I was still just a freshman here at IU Indianapolis. I had not fully figured out what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I am now closer to that decision but still not quite there. I was also not well versed in self-examination. Throughout my time here, I have learned the importance of reflection. Being able to recreate my journey map has allowed me to gain perspective on some of the things I have accomplished here.

In my freshman year of college, I had set out some realistic goals for myself. They were not lofty unachievable goals that I thought I would find when looking back. I have achieved the goal set out for me to become an RA. That has been one of the most life changing experiences I have ever been through. I have become so much more confident and outgoing as this role has pushed me outside of my comfort zone.
Some of the goals, I will achieve in the coming months: graduate college and get my first job. Right now, I am on track to graduate with a 3.945 GPA and will immediately start looking for work post-grad. I want to become a freelance ASL Interpreter and work toward getting a staff position in a school. My field is not one where I can set up a job now; I must graduate and then look for a job. I have no doubt I will be able to accomplish either of these things.
There is one goal that I no longer resonate with. I put “have a family” on my original map. I no longer agree with that sentiment. I do not feel the need to have kids nor do I want them anymore. This is a fluid goal that could absolutely change in the future but for right now I have grown and changed my opinion.
This was an interesting activity to compare and contrast my freshman year self with my about to graduate senior year self. I am happy to see that I have, and I will, achieve most of the goals I set for myself. It is also good to see my own growth and see how my priorities have changed. I have learned many valuable lessons from my time here at IU Indianapolis such as how to collaborate with others, how to strive to accomplish my goals, how to do hard work, and how to present my best self. These lessons will hopefully lead me to my dream career.
